HUNDREDS of businesses in Copeland are set to receive more than £1.5 million in grant support this week.

The cash grants are ready to hit bank accounts to help businesses through the pandemic.

The grants are being made to 667 businesses which have been forced to close as a result of Government restrictions during December and January.

The payments include an upfront cash amount for the current lockdown period, January 5 – February 15.

The payments are in addition to the one-off top-up grants of £4,000, £6,000 or £9,000 announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak in early January.

Copeland Borough Council is still awaiting further guidance and will update businesses with more information on when this payment will be made.

Businesses are advised not to contact the council further if they have already applied for these grants.

Wet-let pubs are reminded to apply for the £1,000 Christmas Support Payment on or before the closing date of January 29.
