Barrow Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Lee Roberts has welcomed the recent boost to Eden Project North.

This week, the Eden Project confirmed it had received £1.2m from the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership.

The £1.2m will go towards development work needed to prepare a planning application for Eden Project North in Morecambe.

Cllr Roberts reacted: “It is pleasing to see £1.2m from the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) supporting the Eden Project North in Morecambe for the development work.

“It would be great to see the project happen as the benefits would be felt right around the Bay.

“And it would be much more than attracting visitors.

“Looking at the success of the project in Cornwall and the Eden North plans it would create a better connection with the natural world through education, ecology and community projects which would reach around the Bay.”

At the moment, Eden aims to submit a planning application next year, with the project set to open to the public in 2024.

Eden Project North seeks to reimagine Morecambe for the 21st century.

The plan is for a year-round destination that combines indoor and outdoor experiences, connecting people with the natural environment of Morecambe Bay while also enhancing wellbeing.
