READERS are reacting to Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell's frustration with the announcement that Barrow will move into the 'high alert' tier after the national lockdown ends.

The tier two announcement received backlash from the MP and Barrow business owners.

William Dale said: "Just out of interest can Simon fell ask if all the Civil Contractors that come into Barrow like the firm building the multi story at BAE and the contracting firm painting the Bridge are tested frequently as they come from high infected areas then come back on the Monday here who stay in digs then return on the friday to there Areas.

Lori Boo Robbo said: "In just the last week there have been 77 cases of covid-19 and so even though there is a drop in cases it is still quite high. The Tier 2 is to try and get the R rate down further. It' is a terrible time for businesses and the fact that they keep having to shut their doors is heartbreaking. I really feel for them, and it is going to be very important for us to support our both our local Businesses and Community to help to build it up again."

Belle Jones said: "Had to go to the bank this morning, loads of people in Dalton Rd, and Portland Walk. Standing in groups etc. Apparently the Range was packed, people getting Xmas things. What pandemic ???"

Stephen Snell said: "If we want to be in tier 1 people have to change. Especially so close to Christmas if pubs did open... Christmas parties would be in full swing and Covid would multiply again. Being social distant takes a back seat when you're drunk."
