A Barrow pub has received an award for the quality of its toilets.

The Furness Railway, located on Abbey Road, was acclaimed for the quality and standard of its toilets in the Loo of Year Awards 2020.

The pub was awarded a platinum rating by inspectors.

Part of the Wetherspoon group, The Furness Railway is managed by Rob Hope.

After receiving the platinum rating, Mr Hope revealed that the pub’s staff are ecstatic at the result.

Mr Hope said: “We are delighted with the award.

“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

Mike Bone, managing director at the Loo of the Year Awards 2020, highlighted the quality of the Barrow pub’s toilets.

Mr Bone explained: “The toilets at The Furness Railway have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

“The pub richly deserves its platinum award.”

Loo of the Year Awards inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of 'away from home' toilet provision across the UK.

All of the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, and overall management.
