A COUNCIL has pleaded with the public to dispose of rubbish properly and warned that it is an illegal offence to drop litter.
South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) warned that doing so could lead to an £80 fine.
An SLDC spokesman said online: "If you are having a takeaway this weekend, please bin any food packaging or take it home to help keep South Lakeland clean and safe for everyone.
"Dropping litter is illegal and can lead to an £80 fine or up to £2,500 if prosecuted in court."
