In July this year, several human bones were discovered on the beach at Thorny Nook, Biggar Bank, Walney.
A police investigation commenced, and the bones were subsequently recovered and examined by a forensic anthropologist.
The result of the examination has now been received and investigating officers have confirmed that all the bones are non-recent, with expert opinion dating the bones between the years 1440 to 1640.
OIC Detective Constable Sarah Knight would like to acknowledge all members of the public involved in the discovery, their diligence assisted the enquiry.
The police investigation has now been finalised and all relevant information forwarded to the county archaeologist.
