BARROW MP Simon Fell sided with the Conservatives against Marcus Rashford’s bid to support vulnerable children.

Readers react to MPs voting down the footballer’s proposal to extend free school meals across half-terms and the Christmas holidays.

Dan Ladden said: “There are no doubt some families that don’t have much but poverty is difficult to identify and define. Just because a family doesn’t have all the trappings of life doesn’t mean they are poor. Some young women have children to different men who fail to contribute to to their upkeep and the state steps in. We have charities, food banks etc etc.”

Ryan Lisp said: “They condemned the MPs £3000 pay rise as utterly staggering and inappropriate,he is a Public Figure so it’s from our taxes. Woodcock said he would not take the 10% rise but did. Let’s see if Fell takes it ,but at least he did as he was told and voted against extended free school meals, will pay for your pay rise. Deeds not words.”

Herman Dune said: “The benefits system supported by the tax payers money, breeds this terrible attitude. Time to pull the rug from under them before it all comes crashing down. Time to educate the uneducated.”

Jonny Walker said: “Conservatives will never get back in in the north, well done Simon Fell, your a disgrace! Only voted for you because you were the only party who actually accepted the Brexit vote. Your not welcome in this town.”

Noah Manson said: “There is no such thing as food poverty, the free school meals stupidity is just an opportunity to do a bit of woke pandering. I’m glad it was stopped. Rashford is meddling.”
