THE MAIL has revisited some of the occasions that have brought people together in the struggle to beat cancer.
In June 2015, pupils from Victoria Juniors school in Barrow held their Race for Life day at Cartmel. They were joined by pupils from Furness Academy, Greengate Junior School, and members of the public.
Race for Life returned in July the following year. This time it featured an intense 5km muddy and wet obstacle race through Bitts Park Carlisle to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Taking part were Emma Barrow and Vicky McLaughlin who lived in Whitehaven.
Carlisle residents Katherine Davidson and Sarah Borthwick also took part along side them.
Despite racing and competing over a year apart from each other the goal remained the same of raising as much money and awareness as possible for Cancer Research.
Runners and fundraisers wore the iconic pink shirts during their events.
The days events saw some runners with years of experience, while others this was their first time.
Also in 2016, members of Anderson Team from Barrow ventured up the K2B fells run to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Mind.
Stewart Turnbull, donned the appropriate polar bear costume as he set off up the fells.
