SCHOOLS have gone above and beyond in giving much-needed donations to refugees.

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Ulverston, alongside Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School in Dalton, have joined forces to provide food and clothing for refugees.

The collection, organised by Furness Refugee Support Volunteers, asked for clothes, shoes, baby care and tinned goods for refugees in need of urgent supplies.

The two schools collected more than a dozen bags for the cause which was delivered to the group on Saturday.

Laura Byrne, headteacher of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, said: “At school, we pride ourselves in showing care and compassion to those in need, within our community and beyond.

“Previously, we have supported the group and we know how effective their cause is.

“At harvest, we come together to provide for others, and we felt that we could support the Refugee Support group again.

“Especially with the impact that Covid-19 has had on our world.

“Both our federation schools, St Mary’s in Ulverston and Our Lady’s in Dalton, came together to provide food and clothing.

“Our Lady’s recently donated food to their local food bank and we will continue to be a support for our communities.”
