BARROW Councillor Hayley Preston, her sister Claire and friend Maz participated in their own Walk to Remember - raising more than £700 for St Mary’s Hospice.
They had planned to do the Coniston to Barrow, but when it was cancelled they decided to do their own sponsored walk.
St Mary’s Hospice cared for Cllr Preston and Claire’s dad Kenneth at the end of last year and the team wanted to give back to the charity.
Cllr Preston said: “St Mary’s not only cared for dad but they kept the whole family going during such a difficult time.
“We wanted to do what we could to raise some money for them. So, we decided to do our own Walk to Remember, by walking from Barrow to Ulverston. We were blown away by the support.
“We only aimed to raise £100 and thanks to the generosity of the donors we’ve raised £730 so far.”
Clare Paling, area fundraiser for St Mary’s Hospice, said: “With so many events postponed and cancelled this year, we really admire and appreciate people like Hayley, Claire and Maz who take it upon themselves to do their own thing – safely and socially distanced of course.
“I’m glad they had the gorgeous weather they deserved for their reverse walk, and look forward to adding them to a Coniston to Barrow team.”
