CONCERNS have been raised over the possibly irreversible damage the Morecambe Bay Bridge could have on wildlife in the bay.

The proposed £8 billion tidal barrage across the bay was recently described as an ‘attractive idea’ by prime minister Boris Johnson.

Lori Boo Robbo said: "They should really knock it on the head. There are far too many people who will have easy access to our wonderful little slice of this earth, and we have more important things to worry about right now."

Frank Tucker said: "They've been talking about this since before I was born, and that was 50 years ago. The wildlife bit makes me laugh. Fish will swim around, shellfish will live in the rocks, birds will feed on them. The only thing that changes, is the sands move differently. All the wildlife will adapt around it."

Manwell Yesruf said: "Built it and it will simply be taken advantage of."

Susan Kent said: "But there will be so many fumes emitted by all the cars travelling such a long way round. This just harms the environment."

Ian Allington said: "There's pie in the sky. They may have nine billion to build this, but I'm not even sure if it was a good idea to begin with."

Richard Howsley said: "I wish they would stop going on about it and just get to work on it. It will probably never happen anyway. We've been waiting for so long."

Reece Mallon said: "It’s never going to happen."

Neil Probert said: "What about the damage already done to Morecambe Bay by the installation of Gas Field Production Platforms and the associated Pipeline infrastructure? At least the Tidal Barrage would have zero impact on global warming and a well-designed Barrage, intelligently installed to minimise effects on the Bay's wildlife, which would be far more environmentally friendly than the long-term effects of the continuation of the use of fossil fuels on Morecambe Bay and the rest of the planet."
