A NEW tech which opened it’s doors for the first time on Friday has promised to bring new life to Millom.

BM Tech Services, based on Wellington Street, and headed by Bill Amos and Matt Dust, had it’s official opening ceremony last week, and was attended by mayor of Millom Angela Dixon and Copeland Conservative MP Trudy Harrison - who cut the ceremonial ribbon.

The opening was attended by around 30 Millomites, with 'nibbles and fizz' on offer

The company is aiming to provide a range of services, including holding classes for the technologically challenged.

Mr Amos, wh said: "This is something that Millom needs.

"We have never had a computer shop, and we are getting loads of repairs coming in.

"We are doing a lot of home visits too for elderly people who perhaps don't understand the technology as much, so we are able to advise them and make life easier for them.

Hoping to expand in the future, Bill said: "At the moment there are three of us, but moving forward we would like to take more people on as the work grows.

"We may be a small town, but Wellington Street is booming now.

"People in this town, we are quite close - so we do try and support local businesses more."

Bill says that they will be starting workshops after noticing that there were many ways to make life easier for older people.

He said: "We are going to be doing some workshops for people that are not quite understanding technology.

"One thing that I am finding is that older people can turn devices on and go onto google or Facebook but they don't know how to make things better.

"I spent three hours with a customers last night and I set up his home network for him so he doesn't need to use a pen drive from one PC to another.

"Just educating him on that is a big thing because that makes his life easier. It will save him so much time, effort and frustration."

Talking about the high level of support in the town he said: "We've had so many best wishes from the town, they are just willing us to succeed"
