CROWDS of people enjoyed a magical movie experience under the stars.

Ulverston’s first outdoor cinema event attracted dozens of film-watchers to Ford Park in a new venture brought by Dave Crossley, Bryn Tyson and Jamie Graham.

The experience, known as Alfresco Flicks, provides a socially spacious open air space to show an array of first class film experiences, enjoy live music and more.

Alfresco’s Flicks inaugural event entailed an outdoor showing of The Lost Boys, The Greatest Showman and Grease across three days of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Since launching ticket sales, the weekend event sold out in a few hours, with organisers describing the rush for an outdoor seat as a ‘cinematic rollercoaster’.

Mr Crossley said he was 'completely overwhelmed' at how well the weekend went.

"We released the tickets a few weeks back and so many people tried to log on to buy them that it crashed our website," he said. "Once we got it sorted we sold out all three nights in just a couple of hours.

"It just illustrates people's appetite to get back out there and have a great time after such a horrible summer for so many.

"The feedback has been so positive which has really blown us away.

"We can't wait to do it all over again and work with other venues. We are already in talks to do more and Ford Park were so happy that they want us back in the future.

"It gives us a much-needed glimmer of hope regarding the events scene which has been hit so hard by the pandemic."

The outdoor movie experience was also catered by Masterchef contestant Mark Satterthwaite, former head chef at the multi-award winning Blacksmith’s Arms. Fajita chicken loaded fries, posh hot dogs and buffalo wings were among the mouth-watering dishes to choose from.
