RESCUERS were called out after two walkers reported themselves stuck on steep ground and unsure of their location on a Lake District fell.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT) was called out to the incident at Lingmell, which overlooks Wasdale Head, at around 7.30pm on Monday.

'Phone find' technology was used to establish the walkers' location as Lingmell Crag.

WMRT team members made their way to the summit of the fell and descended on ropes to the walkers from there.

A WMRT spokesman said: "300m of rope were used to make the team members and casualties safe and help them up to the top.

"The team and casualties then descended to Brackenclose. Once back at base, vehicles and kit were decontaminated or quarantined."

The incident took around eight hours to deal with.
