POLICE are investigating a vicious assault that left a man with facial injuries.

The attack occurred on the night of Saturday, July 18.

Officers were called to an area of Cavendish Street, where a 19-year-old man had been assaulted and sustained a fractured cheek.

Police have appealed for information from any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident.

Councillor for Hindpool, Dave Pidduck said: “Incidents like this are very concerning.

“Assaults are terrifying for people when you think of what could potentially happen.

“We hear stories every day about fatal one punch assaults and some poor soul dies.

“These are really serious, and we take them as such. Whether they are alcohol induced that could be a factor.

“I would hope members of the public, if they witnessed it, can co-operate with the police and bring the person who did this to justice. It’s awful.

“We want people of any age group to come into town and go for a nice evening out, whilst feeling completely safe.

“Acts of violence like this are frightening for everyone. It leaves no one feeling safe.

“I wish people understood what these types of things could cause. Hitting someone hard enough, their head hits the ground, and they may never wake up from it.

“I hope whoever it is, they are caught so that the Police and the courts can deliver justice for the poor lad who got hurt.

“I am a great believer in CCTV, so people will think twice before doing something like this to someone.”
