BARROW BID is enthusiastic about the market’s future with Government funding scheme.

The Future High Streets Fund would see £25 million invested into Barrow's future, particularly the market area.

BID Manager Colin Garnett said: “We have worked closely with the council and its partners. I think it’s essential that we look at the transformation of the town centre. It’s changing and the public’s habits are changing. This bottom up approach is very good and developing the market hall will encourage local people to try retail.

“The reaction has been very positive. The indoor market hasn’t had much money spent on it for almost 50 years. The last one was in the 1970’s. Other towns have done what we are doing and found a lot of success, especially with new businesses and a younger audience."
