A LONG-AWAITED report into the sharp rise of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Barrow earlier this year is now in the hands of the borough council, Public Health England (PHE) has confirmed.
The report, drafted in conjunction with local authorities, looks at demographic factors that may have contributed to the headline-grabbing spike of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the town during March and April.
PHE told The Mail the report has now been finalised and sent to Barrow Borough Council, which will review its findings.
Cllr Lee Roberts said this weekend that the report could be 'vital' to helping the council tackle any future flare-ups in the Furness area.
Cumbria's public health director Colin Cox has also said that the report would be key to containing the virus in south Cumbria, particularly in the event of any future flare-ups across Furness.
