A WOMAN who harassed her 80-year-old neighbour has been banned from playing loud music and jailed for a fortnight.

Tara Ann Green admitted that she harassed her neighbour by repeatedly blasting loud music, banging on her front door and on one occasion pouring a ‘brown liquid’ over clothes belonging to her.

A court heard the 50-year-old defendant lives opposite victim Elizabeth Harper in a block of flats in Ulverston’s Leather Lane.

Green was charged with pursuing a course of conduct that amounted to the harassment of her neighbour between February 23 and April 23.

Prosecutor Lee Dacre told magistrates: “The lady named is 80 years of age and she lives in a block of flats in Ulverston.

“What she says is that there had been a number of incidents.

“On April 6 she was banging on her door and threw brown liquid over washing.

“There were also numerous incidents of loud music.

“With the windows open she played music at very high volume.

“It’s made Ms Harper feel very worried about living at that address.

“She says she is distressed not knowing what will happen next.”

Mr Dacre said that under questioning from police, Green admitted to the incidents and ‘accepts it would have been harassing’.

He said the defendant had twice breached her bail restrictions by interacting with her neighbour and asked for the court to grant a restraining order ‘because of the amount of times it’s gone on’.

In mitigation, Michael Graham said: “She accepts that she was having some emotional difficulties. Her position was exacerbated because of the withdrawal of her medication by the Crisis team.”

Magistrates jailed Green and served her with a restraining order.

Under the order she must not play music loud enough that it can be heard outside her property, must not contact her in any way, must not knock on her door or ring the bell and must not interfere with any of Ms Harper’s property.
