CUMBRIA County Council will use new funding to bring in further experimental schemes after recent U-turn on Grasmere one way plan.

“The council is looking at a number of temporary and permanent measures to help pedestrians and cyclists stay safe and social distance while they’re out and about. The Government has given councils emergency active travel funding to support the roll out of temporary or experimental schemes.

“In order to secure the funding allocated the council had a limited amount of time to put forward a list of temporary cycling and walking schemes. The council has received £260,000 for the first phase of emergency measures and we have been working to roll out the schemes across the county. We have since received feedback on the proposals and a number of schemes, including Grasmere, have been identified as no longer required.”
