THIS is the moment a brazen burglar broke into a shop toilet to steal some pipes.

Security footage caught the moment a man snuck into a newsagents toilet in Barrow and took £100 worth of materials.

Suresh Cheptyappan, owner of Arnolds News in Salthouse Road, said he felt ‘threatened and scared’ after the incident which cost him more than £150 in materials and labour.

The Mail:

The 36-year-old said the man came into the shop ‘very calmly’ before breaking into the toilet area.

He said: “I didn’t know he was there. I went outside later on and found water leaking everywhere and the pipes were broken.

“So I checked the CCTV footage and saw someone had broken into the back area and stolen two pipes from the toilet.

“It was completely broken and I had to pay £100 to get it fixed as well as replace the pipes.

“I couldn’t believe it. It’s the first time I’ve ever been burgled in my four years of owning the shop.

“It’s scary to think someone has come onto my property and done this.”

Police described the man as white, with dark hair and a beard.

At the time of the burglary, he was wearing a blue tracksuit with ‘FIRETRAP’ on the right arm with a black gilet.

Mr Chepyhappan said the burglary had left him ‘scared’ to work in the shop.

“I can’t understand why someone would do this and just for some water pipes too,” he said.

“My colleague is working in there most days now because I feel uncomfortable being there.”
