A MAN who was stabbed to death in Barrow died after an argument over a dog.

It is alleged that David Greenall was stabbed in the liver on Friday night in the Broad Close area of Ormsgill.

Mr Greenall, 48, was rushed to Furness General after the attack but died a short time later.

William Adrian Hughes, 63, who is accused of Mr Greenall’s murder, made no application for bail when he appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday.

Mr Hughes, of Broad Close, was not able to attend due to being in quarantine under the rules of custody at the prison in Preston.

It is alleged that Mr Greenall was stabbed after he intervened in a dispute over a dog, and sustained a puncture wound to the liver.

The plea and trial preparation hearing in this case will be on November 9.

The trial date is currently scheduled to be May 17, 2021. It is estimated to take five days.

Judge Mark Brown, in reference to the trial date, said: “The court will do its utmost to bring that date forward.”

The reason for the distant court date is due to coronavirus affecting the speed at which the court can work.

This may be eased if restrictions are relaxed over the coming weeks and months.

Mr Hughes is set to be in custody until December 15, 2020.

The prosecution is likely to request an extension at the preliminary hearing on November 9.
