THE 2m social distancing rule is under review, the government has confirmed.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said Prime Minister Boris Johnson had commissioned the review and that there was "margin for manoeuvre" in the rule as the number of coronavirus cases falls. Mr Sunak said ministers would "actively" look again at the measure, given its "enormous impact" on the profitability of businesses. It is believed the review will look to report back by July 4, the day when pubs and restaurants may reopen in England.

"Everyone would like to see that reduced from an economic perspective - we can only do that if it's safe and responsible to do so," said Mr Sunak.

The current advice is for people to stay 2m apart to avoid spreading coronavirus but the World Health Organisation recommends at least 1m.
