AN EIGHT-year-old boy has swapped his holiday savings for Easter eggs to give to sick children at Furness General Hospital.

Jaydon-Jai, 8, from Barrow, wanted to cheer up young patients stuck in hospital during the Easter holidays so decided to use up his pocket money for donations to the children’s ward.

His mum, Daniella Martin, described him as a ‘kind and caring’ young boy, who always puts others first.

She said: “It was actually his idea at the beginning of the year.

“He is quite a kind and caring person and just said it would be nice to do something to cheer all the kids in hospital during Easter time.”

The family had planned to go on holiday to Paris this month, however, due to the travel restrictions, the trip was cancelled.

“Jaydon-Jai’s been saving up his own money up for going abroad for a while now,” Miss Martin said.

“He’s been doing odd little jobs around the house and helping out however he can.

“He managed to save about £200.

“Obviously the holiday’s not going to happen now because of the coronavirus so Jaydon-Jai decided he wanted to give his money away to children in hospital.”

The family went to Morrison’s and purchased around 40 Easter eggs for all the children being treated on the ward at Furness General Hospital.

Miss Martin said: “We didn’t know if the hospital would be accepting donations with everything that’s going on but they let us meet them outside to hand over the donation.”

Miss Martin said she was ‘hugely proud’ of her son.

“I feel very proud of him,” she said.

“It’s nice to do something for other people, especially with everything that’s going on right now.

“When a staff member from the children’s ward came down to meet us, she just walked out and said wow.

“Jaydon-Jai told her that you guys do an amazing job, keep it up

“It’s such a nice a way to cheer up the kids up during this time.”

The children’s ward took to Twitter to relay their gratitude.

They said: “A very kind donation from Jayden who saved up his pocket money to buy these Easter eggs for the ward.

"The children will be very pleased.”
