A PROMINENT doctor has said there is ‘no risk’ of catching or passing on coronavirus by ‘sitting in your car’. Furness GP Geoff Jolliffe made the comments in response to concerns being raised about the new law brought in to slow the spread of the disease. Here is what readers thought...

Yvonne Hunt Anyone listen to the health minister on question time last night? He said you can go in your car. Fiona Bruce did ask him to make it clear as people were confused. As long as you not going far and to a crowded play you can drive which is strange as we’re not ment to go out.

Pete Murphy This is irresponsible. The message is stay in Geoff. This kinda of talk just encourages people to go out!

Janet Bury Mixed messages. Either it's travel or essential travel only...no wonder it feels like we are doomed.

Gillian Wallis Thought not using car was more to get cars off the road, cars on the road mean breakdowns, crashes (which could require ambulance police fire engine, that are already strained due to less staff) didn’t think it was anything to do with spreading it sitting in your car. Stop these people that you give an inch and end up driving up the lakes for nice day out.

Sheila Williams The emergency services are stretched enough without having to attend accidents which are totally avoidable!

Dawn Mckellar Surely if you have the virus (unknowingly) and travel to different areas, you are then potentially spreading it further. Thought we were trying to slow the spread of this virus.

Samantha Sherwood Even before the virus I have always been able to walk my dogs without having to come into contact or even be near people. Now we all find ourselves only being allowed in approved areas. These areas get busy increasing the risk and making it harder to keep your distance from others. I am keeping to the rules myself, but I’m not sure if I understand the logic.
