BINGO nights, DJ sets, live quizzes and more are all promised on Barrow’s newest isolation party page.

Score a winning ticket in a raffle or take part in a virtual pub quiz - all from the comfort of your own home on the Facebook page known as Isolation Kitchen Party.

Set up by BAE shipyard worker Scott McArthur, the Isolation Kitchen Party is a space of sharing content and laughs with the local community.

Initially established as a way for BAE staff to communicate away from the yard, the page has now surpassed more than a 1,000 members from across the country.

Mr McArthur, who lives between Barrow and Glasgow, said the page had helped friends struggling with mental health during self-isolation.

“It was initially set up as a squad of work colleagues who wanted to stay in touch during the isolation period,” he said.

“But people kept adding more and more friends until it became a lot bigger than just the yard.

“It’s a way of keeping everyone entertained and a bit of distraction away from constant talk of coronavirus.

“I’ve had a member tell me he doesn’t know what he’d do without the group and without it, he thinks he would’ve slipped back into his depression.

“It’s really important to some people.”

The group hosts live concerts, DJ sets, raffles, quizzes as well as being a platform to share funny stories and pictures.

“The other night we had a local DJ performing techno and trance anthems,” Mr McArthur said.

“And we’ve had people upload videos of them performing tricks with footballs. It’s a real fun, social place.”

As the page’s popularity grew, the organiser realised they could help give back to the page by hosting a fundraiser.

“Our numbers were rising so quick we thought why not set up a fundraiser for staff at Furness General Hospital and help them in any way we can.

“They’re really struggling and on their knees at the moment so deserve some recognition.”

Within two days, the Go Fund Me page had raised nearly £3,000 for the hospital.

“We couldn’t believe it, we only set a target of £1,000 so was chuffed to see it had done so well.”
