A PATIENT has died at Furness General Hospital in the biggest one-day Coronavirus (Covid-19) death toll rise yet.

The NHS announced this afternoon that one patient had died in the past 24 hours at the Barrow hospital.

The UHMBT patient was one of a further 83 people who, having tested positive for Covid-19, passed away today.

Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust said: "We can confirm that, sadly, a male patient who tested positive for COVID-19 has died at Furness General Hospital. He was in his 70’s and he had an underlying health condition.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones and we would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

The total number of confirmed reported deaths in England is now 386.

There have so far been 422 deaths in the UK overall, with over 8,000 confirmed cases.
