A BARROW man pleaded guilty to driving over the legal limit when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

James Slowey drove after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, 41 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

The 70-year-old had bought two small bottles of red wine which a member of the public saw him drinking, the court was told.

The Bowfell Crescent resident was fined £200 plus £107 in court costs, and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
