Without any or all of the aforementioned then yes extremely dangerous Unfortunately accidents do happen no matter how well prepared and equipped I do hope he was properly equipped for winter conditions and it was a unfortunate accident and warrants my sympathy."

This is a grade 1 climb, "one of the most popular winter excursions in the Lake district (and one of the most frequently fallen from by those not equipped with ice axe and crampons)". I would add, and know how to use them. It's all relative to experience and skills."

Sue Clevely said: "It can be extremely dangerous if you don't come with all the correct equipment. Also if the weather is bad then that can add to the danger too. I'd say you have to have the correct level of expertise and experience to take on this path."
