A BARROW man has been ordered to pay more than £200 after sending a grossly offensive message.

Dean Richard Fawcett, of Cross Street in Barrow, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The 40-year-old admitted sending by means of a public electronic communications network a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

The offence happened on January 10 in Barrow.

Fawcett was fined £80 and also ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

He also pleaded guilty to a bail act offence.

The court heard Fawcett had failed to surrender to custody at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Wednesday January 22 having been released on bail on January 11 at Barrow Police Station.

Fawcett pleaded guilty to that offence and was fined £40.

The total of £237 will be deducted from his benefits.
