Chris Burl It's interesting how long councils often take to pay contractors. I've had to issue late payment penalties to seven different councils in the last two years. Some have taken up to 10 weeks to pay a 30 day invoice. Not a good way to support small businesses. That's the sort of cashflow problem that puts them at risk of folding.

Keir Lightfoot That just depends, as the job centre love dishing out sanctions left right n centre especially when you are five min late (but they can be over 29 minutes late and nothing is said) so when u get a sanction you lose housing benefit too as you need to be on a benefit to claim housing and council tax. This is what gets people so behind in paying it as they don’t realise it gets stopped and they need to apply for it again, this I know from past experience.

Hannah Ward If someone who has been struggling to pay due to genuine reason or hardship, they should be dealt with in a more reasonable way than a bailiff. But anyone included in that 332 that just can’t be bothered, or doesn’t believe they should pay throw the book at them. The rest of us have to pay it.

Sarah Ackred Amazing how quick they are when you owe money, and yet when they've made a mistake it takes months.

Mandy McKenna I paid and still got a summons.

Andrew McIntosh Ian a landlord who is just trying to scrape a living as I am visually impaired and I’ve had court summons because my tenants haven’t paid their tax- is this right?

Marilyn Louise Dacre I was two weeks late paying and they sent me a summons. I had to pay the rest off the year in full to avoid going to court at the end off the month.

Liz Gilbride No compassion, and not so quick when they make mistakes.

Philip Henderson If they are not paying then yes action needs to be taken.

Mandy Major Is that all Barrow council have to worry about? Not all the empty shops.
