A WOMAN was told she had made a poor start to her retirement after being convicted of drink driving.

Kathryn Sherdley, 65, appeared before magistrates after being found to have driven almost while three times over the legal limit for alcohol.

The Swarthmoor woman was stopped by police on Rating Lane in Barrow on December 30.

She pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Diane Jackson told the court: “At about 3.45pm police received a call from a concerned member of the public about erratic driving.

“Police saw the woman attempt to pass the sitting traffic on the road.”

The woman, of Heather Bank in Swarthmoor, told magistrates: “It’s a mistake it would not be repeated.”

Sherdley was banned from the road for 18 months and fined £323. She was ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

Sentencing her, chair of the bench Gillian Sutton told the defendant: “It says here you are due to retire in four days.

“It’s not the greatest start to your retirement, is it?”
