A SPEEDING driver has avoided being banned from the road following a court appearance.
Patrick James Fogharty, 76, was caught speeding on Salthouse Road in Barrow on June 29.
Facing a driving ban after accruing penalty points, he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court to argue exceptional hardship to avoid being banned.
Fogharty, of Central Drive in Walney, said he was the sole carer for his disabled wife and a ban would leave her house-bound.
Magistrates gave him three points on his licence and ordered a £100 fine and £32 victim surcharge.
