THE committee of the Keswick to Barrow Walk has recently been to inspect the new start location in Legburthwaite.

This means that the race can go back to being the full 40 miles, which it has not been for the last few years due to Storm Desmond, which ruled out this location as a starting point.

Ian Walmsley, committee member for the Keswick to Barrow Walk, said: “As previously outlined, on Saturday, January 18, an intrepid bunch of committee members, including myself, made an early journey up to our new proposed start at Legburthwaite.

“This is a site we have been intending to utilise for at least three years, but various weather events have conspired to prevent this happening.

“Happily, we are now able to use this new start as all issues have been resolved. We do have the proven fall back option of the Swirls start we have used for the last two years.

“We review and surveyed the entire area around the site including the entrance for walkers and exit into the starting area along with the close by crossing of the A591.

“We are confident that these arrangements will work to everyone’s satisfaction.

“However, this is a new starting arrangement and we are appealing to all walkers, runners and support cars to follow the instructions of the marshalls in the area, in fact, across the whole course, to facilitate a smooth, efficient starting process.

“As it is new, we are asking if there are any hold-ups can you please be patient, we will get you away as swiftly as possible.

“We spent around an hour studying in the area and, as we were at the start of the course, we took the opportunity to drive the whole course through to Dalton to assess any issues arising.

“The are a couple of things we will need to address out on the course but are hopeful these will be resolved without any impact on the day.

"Any news will be flagged up in the Mail article.
