A SCHOOL on Walney has been sending out 'boxes of love' to those in need, and pupils have been nominated for a national award.

Pupils from years three and four at North Walney Primary School made the boxes as part of Mitzvah Day, which is a faith-based day of social action. The children also created a ‘Mitzvah Wall’ where pupils made pledges of good deeds that they will do this year.

Pupils also took part in an informative session run by Love My Beach, regarding the environmental problems that beaches currently face and what can be done about this.

This learning was then put into practice the following week, when the students from years five and six came together with students from the nearby St Bernard’s School to run a beach clean, showing that caring for the environment can begin close to home, and that actions do not have to be huge in order to make a difference.

Chris Mountford, Headteacher of North Walney Primary School, said: “ The children and Mrs Murray worked incredibly hard on this project.

“The work the children produced truly demonstrated their kindness and respect for both each other and the environment.

“I’m very proud, and pleased that their kindness has been recognised and that they have been shortlisted for an Outstanding Youth Award, which they very much deserve.”
