MAIL readers had plenty to say about the new Burger King drive-thru that is set to come to Barrow after planning permission was granted.

Hannah Fitzsimmons appeared to view the added choice of drive-thru fast food outlets in the town centre as something positive, saying: “Finally, a change to McDonald’s and KFC.”

Dave Vincent seemed particularly pleased by the news, writing: “Great, and now no need go out of town for a Burger King. A large Whopper and 100 onion rings please.”

Richard Stokes suggested planners “keep the Tesco side as carpark entrance, then open the range car park through which cars can exit out onto Duke Street.”

Chloe Louise Sullivan disagreed. She said: “Are you kidding me? All you have to do is look at the mayhem caused at the roundabout when the Sunday hangovers have kicked in and the queue for MacDonald’s is backed up on it.”

Ange O’Halloran was similarly unimpressed by certain aspects of the planning application: “A £5,000 ‘keep clear’ sign on the road?? Do you have any idea how many drivers actually pay attention to signs?”

Jimmy Armstrong said: “There’s already a Burger King over the roundabout, plus three or four others. We don’t need more fast food joints otherwise everybody will end up looking like the Pillsbury Doughboy.”

Paul Carr said the decision was an “absolute joke. The Hollywood park roundabout is already blocked with the McDonald’s drive thru - this will just make it worse.”

Vicky Pearce felt the planning decision represented: “yet another waste of money. Why not add another pub, charity shop or hairdressers down there too. It’s not like we’re overrun with them.”

Amy Nicholson said there was “Every other fast food chain there. So, crikey, why not another?

Jo Braithwaite said: “We need more clothes shops - of the kind people can afford.”
