NEW figures have revealed the number of Islamophobic incidents in the county.

Since 2013, 74 incidents of the hate crime were recorded by Cumbria Police.

The highest number of incidents were recorded in the south of the county, police said.

Across that time period there were 37 incident recorded in south Cumbria.

There were 19 in west Cumbria and 18 in north Cumbria.

Police said the data was collected from religiously motivated and the aggrieved religion indicated incidents of hate crime.

Last year there were four incidents of Islamophobia in the county and 13 recorded by police in the year before.

The biggest spike in the number of incidents came in 2017, when 34 were recorded.

Figures were revealed through a freedom of information request.
