A BARROW record store has seen huge success in it's first year since opening.

TNT Records has seen huge support from the community, and recently bagged itself the UK's Record Shop of the Year 2019 award.

Owner and founder Dave Turner said: "We opened last year on the 22nd December, and within three days everything was cleared so we knew that this was going to be something big.

"We had to rethink our strategy and sign up with all the big dogs - we managed to get that sorted in six weeks, it normally takes about three years.

"We had over 300 people queued up in April.

"There is always a massive buzz around the store, it's great.

"People say that we are running our store off of passion.

"We've already expanded the store and we've had a joiner come round three times and we're looking to open up a vinyl cafe upstairs.

"We have now partnered up with Kendal Calling so all being well we could be running the merchandise for them next year.

"Our drumming lessons are also doing really well, we have people aged from 6 to 60 taking part.

"It's my cousin, Jevon Turner, who tutors them. He has been on the scene for over 25 years.

"The kids are coming on leaps and bounds, I'm waiting on a testimonial about how much a kid has changed.

"It brought tears to my eyes that he's now so full of confidence.

"We're going to be getting a visit from Brian Connon, the guy who did artwork for Oasis and The Verve.

"Now that we've hit the number one spot we might have higher level merchandise."

The shop found themselves with a famous visitor this week, with Grian from Fontaines D.C. making an appearance, and signing some memorabilia.

Speaking of the stores Record Store of the Year 2019 win, Dave said:"We've beaten shops that have had 20 years service, it just shows that the support from the local community is overwhelming.

"Some people don't even buy anything, we've had people come in, shake hands and leave.

"It's what the town needs - I'd like to say a big thank you to the community for always being behind us.

"We're holding a first birthday party - so any purchase in the store will gain you a free ticket.

"There will be six bands as well as pie and peas.
