A TEENAGE boy from Barrow is due to go on trial charged with 10 sex offences against a 14-year-old girl.

The defendant, who cannot be identified because of his age, appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Barrow on October 2.

The youth is accused of carrying out a string of sex offences against a girl when he was 13.

He is charged with sexually assaulting the girl by kissing her face and neck when she did not consent and he did not reasonably believe she consented.

He is also charged with two counts of attempted rape and sexual assault involving penetration, sexually assaulting the girl by squeezing her breasts, two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, another count of sexual assault involving touching the girl through her clothing, and another count of sexual assault involving rubbing himself against her thighs.

The boy pleaded not guilty to all 10 offences and is due to go on trial at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Abbey Road, Barrow, on Monday.

The trial is scheduled to last around three hours.

All victims of alleged sexual offences are afforded automatic anonymity.
