THE Norman Nicholson Society has announced it will sponsor two poetry categories at the South Cumbria Musical Festival next year.
Schoolchildren will have the chance to compete for a trophy and a book token in two age groups, reception to year six, and year seven to year nine. They will learn and recite a poem by the well-known 20th century Millom poet Norman Nicholson.
The current chair Charlie Lambert said: "We want to keep Norman Nicholson’s name alive and also to give a new generation the chance to get to know his poetry. The poems always sound great when read out loud and I’m sure the children will enjoy learning and reciting them.”
The festival takes place at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston, from March 15 to 20, with the poetry categories to be decided on March 16. Entry forms can be obtained from the Entries Secretary.
