COLOURFUL Christmas creations have been installed as a popular festival is ready to open its doors.

The Dalton Christmas Tree Festival, which is held at St Mary’s church in the town, is now ready to kick off its seventeenth year.

On display are 51 trees, all of which were created by a school group, charity or individual, with each one hoping to raise money for their chosen charitable cause.

This year's theme for the Christmas trees is ‘a favourite song’.

The theme saw songs brought to life from Baby Shark to An English Rose.

Event organiser Sylvia Stoker said: “Last year we raised over £8,000 for charity.

“I hope that people go around the displays slowly and look properly because they really are spectacular works of art.

“We’ll go on with the festival as long as we can.”

Pennington Nursery kids have decorated a tree inspired by Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’

Tracy Robinson, a nursery room leader and community events organiser at the nursery, said: “It is the most popular song in the nursery.

“We used recycled CD’s for snowman heads, lollipop sticks, and the baby room has made little footprints.”

The festival will open at St Mary’s Church in Dalton this Sunday at 2pm-6.30pm, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Christmas from 2pm-5pm, on Boxing Day from 2pm-4pm and then on the final weekend of the month from 2pm-4pm.
