THE MAIL readers react to plans to open a new Co-Op in Barrow which are set to be approved. In August the retailer revealed plans to convert part of the Lisdoonie Hotel in Abbey Road into a new store. The store will employ 15 members of staff and have 15 car parking spaces at the front.

Susan Kenny said: "They’re blocking off the Furness Park opening to help with traffic but the main entrance will be from Abbey Road ? That’s going to work well, do any of the planners actually drive up Abbey Road 8.30am-ish and after 3pm!Tailbacks can go down to Victoria Road."

Gareth Sneesby said: "Aldi corner shops would be nice."

Jo Welsh said: "There’s lots of Coops! I work in one! Each one is very profitable in its own right!This will flourish like the others do! It’s also creating more jobs, not to mention the amount of money each shop generates for local charities! Ainslie Street since April has raised over £800 for St Mary’s Hospice! And several thousand pound for other Charities!"

Emma Thompson said: "There’s gonna be more co-ops than supermarkets at this point, shame that they can’t plan on getting bigger premises for Millom as it is small and with being a mam with a baby in a buggy there isn’t much room for anything else down the aisles."
