The winner of this week's The Mail's Bouquet of the Week is a dedicated Barrow man who likes to keep himself on the go.

Alf Hadley, 83, boasts a long list of well earned titles from his work within the community.

The selfless Barrow man is the current Vice Chairman of a Community Centre, as well as being the Chairman of the centre's Tenants and Residents group.

Alf Hadley is also the president of the Barrow Male Voice Choir and Trustee of Barrow and District Disability Association and the past president of Barrow Rotary of which he is still a member.

Mr Hadley said: "I just get a good feeling out of helping people.

"I have recently organised for a disabled person to go to Calvert House in Keswick, when they get sent there they can spend a week away and take a companion.

"We at the Rotary club take them to Keswick, bring them back and pay for them to go on the trip.

"It is life changing for the people that get to go.

"I used to have my own business as a joiner but when I started to lose my eyesight I had to pack everything in and retire which meant that I had to find other things to do."

Mr Hadley is also a regular member at the Gym which he says helps to keep himself active.

Alf said: "I am a member at DW and I go there three times a week.

"I used to be a professional rugby player for Whitehaven.

"Because of this I've had two new knees and two new shoulders.

"I've always said that I won't get cremated, I'll just get thrown in a scrapyard!"
