An Oktoberfest-themed wedding brewed up bucket loads of love between one Ulverston couple.

Katherine Postlethwaite, 30, and Michael Reeks, 33, first locked eyes on a Barrow nightclub dancefloor eight years ago.

Just two weeks later, the now Mrs Reeks, brought her toothbrush and moved in.

She said: “There was an instant attraction as soon as we met.

“We had a few mutual friends and just got chatting away all night.”

For their first date, the couple enjoyed a romantic meal at The Farmhouse in Ulverston.

“We took a few walks down the lake too, it was really nice,” she said.

“There’s always been a good banter between us and he’s got a great sense of humour so we just clicked.”

The pair officially got engaged while on holiday in Crete last year.

“We were sat by the sea enjoying the view when he suddenly asked me,” she said.

“We’re both quite simple people who enjoy the more low-key things so it was perfect for us.”

The newlyweds officially tied the knot at Pennybridge Church in Greenodd before heading to The Wilsons Arms at Torver.

There were 130 guests who attended during the day with a later 70 more joining the couple at night.

Mrs Reeks described the day as ‘an absolute blur’ but ‘perfect in every way’.

“It was a really lovely day from start to finish,” she said.

“On the way to church too we stopped off by the side of Coniston Water and had a glass of Prosecco with my dad which was a lovely moment.”

The theme of the couple’s wedding reception was Oktoberfest based on their past trips skiing in Austria.

“We had tankers filled with real ale from Ulverston brewery on the tables to match our Oktoberfest theme as we spend a lot of time in Austria skiing and snowboarding,” Mrs Reeks said.

“We also had long benches with fur blankets with steins filled with flowers from blue bell and ivy for the centre pieces.”

For their honeymoon, the newlyweds embarked on a cross-country trip across America, with stop-offs in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Hawaii.

Mrs Reeks said: “We’ve always dreamt of going to Hawaii and thought we wouldn’t get the chance of doing it again so decided to make it into a big trip.

“We saw the Hollywood sign, went to Universal studios and went to the most incredible beaches in Hawaii.

“The whole thing was absolutely amazing and a perfect end to our wedding.”
