The achievements and successes of students at Furness Academy during the last academic year were celebrated at its annual awards evening.

This year the school merged their two awards celebrations into a singular event to celebrate Year Seven to Year 11 all in one special evening.

The event was to celebrate a wonderful year at Furness Academy, filled with opportunity, experiences, successes, achievement and a lot of hard work.

Guest speaker Neil Doherty, senior business management advisor from BAE Systems, presented the students with their awards. During his speech, Mr Doherty provided some key messages to the audience, taken from his own experiences regarding grasping opportunity, trusting in your own abilities, believing in yourself, and being resilient.

Prizes were awarded in all subject areas, for progress, for excellence in STEM, for dedication to the arts and more. The presentation of the special DOLS award was poignant as each Director of Learning Standards stood up and presented a special award to a student in their year group, one whom was chosen by them for being outstanding during the last academic year. Each student was chosen for many different reasons, including dedication to school, academic and personal achievement, courage and determination, plus much more.
