THOUSANDS of pounds has been donated to a school by members of the community.
The Mayor of Ulverston councillor Sharon Webster presented Donna Stretton, head of Sandside School, a cheque for £10,000 to help fund the Hydrotherapy Pool in the school.
The money was raised by rotary clubs across Furness.
This was the culmination of weeks of hard work by Rotarian Glyn Spalding and his wife Brenda.
All the co-ordination for the organisation of the event, from persuading sponsors to fund or prizes for the raffle and the blind auction, was organised by Mr Spalding.
The Rotary Clubs of Furness, Barrow, Grange over Sands, Furness Peninsula, Millom and Ulverston all worked together to provide helpers and support for the event.
Roy Gill, from the Rotary Club of Ulverston, said: “Thanks go to the people of Ulverston and District who came along on Sunday in glorious weather and contributed to the funds.
“Thanks to the local businesses and their generous financial help to the Gala.
“Thanks also go to the helpers who turned out on Saturday to organise the equipment required and Sunday for setting it up ready for the people attending.
“It is certain that enough money was made to fulfil the promise of £11,500 for the school.”
