A MINI rugby team based in Ulverston has received a donation of more than £5,000 by an international charity.
Ulverston’s Under-16s Amateur Rugby League Club has been given £5012.75 by the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes Grand Lodge of England commonly known as the ‘Buffs’.
The Buffs is a charitable organisation with lodges throughout the UK and world.
Some lodges are based in Cumbria which include The Robin Hood Lodge based in Barrow, the Pride of Furness Lodge based in Ulverston and the Lakeland Gateway Lodge in Kendal.
One of the coaches of the Ulverston Amateur Rugby League Club, Scott Houston, contacted one of the ‘Buffs’ members Brother Les Sandham, asking to support their team to help with travelling expenses.
Across 18 months, through various fund-raising activities and personal donations, the Buffs collected £5012.75.
The Under 16’s, with the help of the donation, has since reached the number two position in their league table and the club is also now considering being able to field an under 18’s team.
