RESIDENTS fighting for the future of a play park are due to hold a committee meeting tomorrow.

Families who want to bring back the play equipment in Dalton’s Storey Square park are trying to raise funds to return it to its former glory.

Councillors decided to stop funding the playground due to budgets cuts, with contractors removing the park ‘s equipment - a roundabout and a set of swings - last year.

Residents who make up the fundraising committee are due to meet at Dalton Cricket Club at 6pm tomorrow.

New committee members are said to be welcome.

The group is attempting to raise £5,000 in order to set itself up as a charity and bid for grant funding.

A plan for a new park has been drawn up with designer Playdale and will cost around £60,000.

Campaigners have vowed to carry on fundraising until their target is reached.

Former council leader Dave Pidduck said last year after the park was dismantled: “I would love to fund every play park in the borough but sadly the money is not there to do so.”

It was one of four parks in the Barrow borough area to face this fate after council chiefs decided to stop funding lesser-used play areas.
