TWO people were injured after a fire broke out in a house in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters tackled a blaze that started in the upstairs of a house in Haverigg’s Bankfield Road.

The fire ripped through the upstairs of the property along with its roof.

Pictures from the scene showed the upstairs of the house gutted by the fire.

Fire crews from Ulverston, Millom and Bootle attended the scene to extinguish the blaze, which started around 4am yesterday.

Firefighters said two women suffered injuries in the incident.

One of them was taken to hospital with burns.

Millom mayor Angela Dixon said: “It’s very sad. They’re a very lucky to be alive.

“They will likely have to find somewhere else to live.

"The town council can help in providing things for them.”

Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a ladder to put out the fire.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “At approximately 4:25am, three fire engines were mobilised to reports of a building fire in Haverigg.

“On arrival crews found the building well alight. The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom and roof of the property. Crews used two breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets and a 9m ladder to extinguish and damp down the fire.”
