EMOTIONS ran high as Dalton's Year 11 pupils celebrated GCSE success.

Tears of joy and relief were seen in abundance at Dowdales School, where staff praised the hard work of the high-achieving class of 2019.

The top performer was Alys Deakin, who achieved 9s in maths, chemistry, physics and biology and an A* in further maths.

Her hard work also resulted in two 8s in English literature and geography.

Boom Srirattanawong also came out with 9s in maths, biology, physics and chemistry.

He said: "It feels really good to have achieved these results.

"It involved a lot of hard work."

Another high achiever Amelia Smith said: "I was really nervous opening my results.

"I had to work really hard but I'm happy with what I've achieved."

Headteacher Emma Aubrey said: "They have all done amazingly well and worked hard during their time at Dowdales School to achieve these results. They will go on to do great things.

"Students have made good progress across all grades with many achieving the top grades.

"I couldn't be prouder.

"Throughout their years as part of the Dowdales community, students have been excellently supported by dedicated staff and parents.

"We wish them well in the future and we know that these results will allow them to thrive, progress and fulfil their high ambitions."
