BARROW Market has been hailed as the ‘most vibrant place’ in town after seeing a spike in new traders opening their doors.

In recent weeks four new businesses, including All That Glitters, have opened in Barrow Market as well as another business being run under new management.

Alongside this, one of the market’s top success stories has also seen former stall trader GRILLa Cheese expanding into new premises on Dalkeith Street with another two traders also looking to expand.

With the growing hype market bosses are keen to sing its praises and thanked The Mail's Trader of the Week.

Jacqui Armstrong from Barrow Market said: “We have had lots of fabulous new businesses join us this year. The market hall has been said to be the most vibrant place to be in the town centre.

“We are very proud of that statement and I couldn’t agree more. The market is a perfect place to take a stroll through and shop at our many businesses and to meet up with friends and family for a cuppa and a bite to eat.”

There are currently 57 quality independent businesses in the market and with the growing hype market bosses are now looking at separating some double units into single stalls to meet the growing demand.

With the growing success traders are also keen to promote a more ecologically sensitive form of shopping.

Many of the traders are now using plastic free packaging and the recycling of plastic waste is taken very seriously.

This has previously been highlighted as one of the top reasons to visit the market as unlike many supermarkets the reduction of plastic waste is far easier to address at market level.

Mrs Armstrong said: “Our market is adaptable to the changing times of our high street and our customers requirements. We continue to serve our community and our traders offer that extra special personal touch that you can’t get anywhere else. We are a community hub all of it’s own and Barrow Market Hall continues to stand the test of time.”The market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am-5pm.
